Traditions of Viral Marketing on a Grand Scale


While there are many definitions in the new terminology of viral marking, the traditional methods can still be seen around the internet used by some of the most successful sites, ones that appear even in Television commercials about other products. This is probably viral marketing at its peak since they began by providing people something so attractive and free that the site is now a household name. Even better is that they actually did not create the entertainment or the content.

In the US, there is an advertisement for an expensive and attractive phone and to demonstrate its capabilities one of the actors tells another to get on to specific viral video site and to upload a video. That is a prime example of viral marketing since the viral video site is a household name now for videos.

Although such video sites do pay a very hefty bandwidth cost, they also provide a service, which allows users to upload their own creations, and viewers to display these creations on their site. The user who uploads the video to that site knows that it will display a name and a link, the marketer who displays that content on their site knows they are providing viral marketing to another site, but the content is so attractive that many do so gladly.

A more prosaic example is the site, which provides articles for use on other sites. They did have to create the content, but once that was done they grant free use of it to others provided they give a link to the creator’s site.

While a website owner might struggle to create content they know they need, such viral content sites grant them the content use and use viral marketing to drive traffic to their own site. The cost for the viral marketing site is the creation of the content and they usually have such a large selection that they become the “go to” place for content.

They might offer articles on many topics and then cover each as fully as they can. If they began to produce articles about tech they would cover as many new products and trends in technology, including memory, new gadgets, and how to build items. If they produced articles on immigration they might cover, USCIS, US immigration forms, and the US naturalization application.

While viral marketing is free advertising in its most perfect form it also requires the marketer provide an essential or unobtainable service such as content, advice, or acting as a go between or central repository for specific items.

However, such services can also be scaled down to meet the needs of the new site owner. While they may not want to become a central source of all information on immigration or technology they may utilize such sites by creating content when contains a link to their own site. If their content is attractive enough, and unique enough it will begin to work on its own and spread. Viral marketing does work; one has only to look at some of the most successful entertainment and content sites on the net to see just how well it works.
